Training on teaching Thang-Ta begins

A five-day long training programme on Teaching of Traditional Martial Arts (Thang-Ta) or Meitei traditional fencing for school teachers' kick started at EduSat Hall, State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT), DM College campus here today.
Organised by SCERT, Government of Manipur, the training programme has been initiated to impart in-depth knowledge of Thang-Ta, which has been upgraded as a subject of study for class IX standard at schools from the current year, told Text book Officer, SCERT, M .Nalini , who was the spokesperson of the function while interacting with media on the sideline of the programme.
"In the year 2003, the state government included Thang-Ta for classes 6 to 8", she added.
She further maintained that the training has been organized in order to enable teachers to train students well on the sport.
The inaugural function was also attended by Dr L.Kokngang, retd.Reader, M..BCollege; Dr..ARishikesh, Thang-Ta scholar; A.Ojendro, coach, YAS, Government of Manipur and experts L.Ibomcha and K.Jiten Mangang as resource persons.
