Teachers' training on Thang-ta gets underway

A five-day training programme for school teachers on 'teaching of traditional martial arts' (Thang-Ta) commenced from today at the Edusat Hall of SCERT Hindi Teachers' Training Institute in DM College campus.
with Thang-Ta already included as a school curriculum from class VI to IX the training programme is being organised to enable the teachers have basic idea and knowledge on the traditional martial arts form, said SCERT Text Book Officer M Nalini Devi, during inauguration function.
Expressing that most of the school teachers might not be well versed with the martial arts form, she exuded confidence that by honing their teaching skill on the subject the teachers will be able to broaden knowledge of the pupils.
Besides conveying that inclusion of Thang-Ta as a school curriculum will imbibe sense of discipline and help physical development of the students, Nalini said the subject will also ensure the traditional martial arts form practised and gifted by the Manipuri forefathers is preserved for generations.
As resource persons of the training programme, Reader (Retd) of MB College Dr L Kokngang, Thang-Ta scholar Dr A Rishikesh, YAS Coach A Ojendro and subject experts L Ibomcha and K Jiten Mangang elaborated on the finer aspects of the traditional martial arts.
