Imphal, May 06 2014:
With some of the Congress legislators started rolling up their sleeves to claim ministerial berths promised to them, Chief Minister O Ibobi is likely to face a difficult situation soon.
At the time of Government formation, Chief Minister O Ibobi had assured his 42 MLAs that half of the total party's legislators would be given ministerial berths till the first half of the present tenure and the remaining half in the second half of his incumbency.
Some Congress MLAs now felt it is time for the Chief Minister to translate his assurance and effect reshuffling of the Cabinet.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, some of these disgruntled Congress MLAs pointed out that current tenure of the Congress Government, which was formed on March 14, 2012, has crossed more than two years now.
The Congress MLAs who are seeking ministerial berths in the Ibobi Cabinet further claimed that several aspirants have now started showing up their faces in certain assembly constituencies preparing themselves for the upcoming 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
They observed that now people are not satisfied with the Congress Ministers since their policies are not liked by them.
The MLAs insisted that they need to hold ministerial posts in the Ibobi Government in order to work more for the people with whom they intend to keep good relations unlike the present Ministers.
The next State assembly election is expected to be held sometime in 2017, they noted, while ruling out that the Government can fix the election schedule according to its convenience.
They added that usually code of conduct is issued at least one month before the polling date and hence it is necessary that the State Government reshuffle its Cabinet before two-three months ahead.
