Govt orders Magisterial enquiry

The State Cabinet has decided to institute a Magisterial enquiry into the death of eight persons and burning of houses of MLAs, Ministers and MP in Churachandpur district in the course of the mass protest movement against the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 .
A Cabinet meeting was held this morning with Chief Minister O Ibobi in the chair and the meeting resolved to institute a Magisterial enquiry into the Churachandpur mob violence.
Soon after the three Bills were passed, violent reactions erupted across Chura-chandpur district and the mob started setting afire houses of MLAs, Ministers and MP and many other properties.
In the ensuing confrontation with security forces, eight people were killed at different places.
The Home Department would issue a separate order regarding who would conduct the Magisterial enquiry, informed an official source.
The Cabinet meeting also reviewed the prevailing situation in Churachandpur.
