Following assurance of the BRO to insert wheel guards on Barak Bridge which is being repaired presently, trans-porters have changed their earlier decision to stop plying on Imphal-Jiribam highway until the steel plates being used on the floor of Barak Bridge are repaired by wooden planks.
During a meeting held yes-terday with Additional Chief Secretary O Nabakishore in the chair, BRO officials assured representatives of the Manipur Truck Owners Welfare Association (MTOWA) and the Manipur Road Transport Motor Workers and Drivers Union that wheel guards would be inserted on Barak Bridge.
The BRO officials further assured that the steel plates being used on the floor of the bridge would be replaced by wooden planks within a period of one month, according to MTOWA president H Ranjit.
Following the BRO's assurance, transporters have decided to resume normal service on Imphal-Jiribam highway from September 7 .
As such, a convoy of empty trucks, oil tankers and LPG bullets would leave Imphal for Jiribam on September 7 with security escorts.
The security escorts, after reaching Jiribam, would escort back loaded trucks and oil tankers currently stranded at different places and they are expected to reach Imphal by September 10 or 11 .
