SFs gun down two UG cadres

At least two suspected underground cadres have been killed in an encounter with a combined team of 11 Assam Rifles and 6 Dogra Regiment near International border pillar number 81, Kwatha Khunou under Moreh police station in Chandel district at around 11.30 am today.
Suspected well armed UG cadres and security forces engaged in a gunfight for around 15 minutes, said a source.
After the encounter, the ultras fled the spot towards Myanmar, added the source.
Later, the security team recovered two bodies of UG cadres clad in full war fatigue.
They recovered one AK rifle and two pistols from the encounter site, the source added.
The security team is also suspected to have suffered some casualties although details could not be ascertained, the source claimed.
Bodies of the suspected UG cadres would be brought to JNIMS morgue for post mortem examination and identification.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by PRO Hqs IGAR (S) said that based on an information regarding presence of PLA cadres near the international border at Moreh, patrols were launched by 11 Assam Rifles and 6 Dogra of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs IGAR(S) today.
The patrols were fired upon by UG cadres hiding between B Bongjang and T Motjang villages.
Assam Rifles troops retaliated instantly and the two sides engaged in a gun battle for around an hour.
Two UG cadres were killed while one AK-47 rifle along with two pistols were recovered from the spot.
Taking advantage of the proximity to international border, the remaining UG cadres fled towards Myanmar side, the press release said.
As per sources, bodies of two more UG cadres have been taken away by the insurgents, who were also seriously injured in the encounter.
The bodies of the two UGs and the recovered weapons have been handed over to Moreh police station, added the press release.
