Imphal, December 01 2022:
The Platform for Protection of Indigenous People, Manipur hosted the second executive committee meeting of North-East Indigenous (NEI) today evening.
The meeting was held at the conference hall of Diocesan Social Service at Mantripukhri Lamlongei.
Hours before the meeting, NEI president Stalyn Ingti told media persons that the meeting will discuss several issues and hardships facing the indigenous people of North East and it will take resolutions.
Stalyn said the North East Indigenous (NEI) was formed by representatives of different indigenous communities of the region in a conference held at Guwahati in 2020 .
The NEI is not political and its members are volunteers.
"Several communities in the North East seem to be divided on several issues.
Political and religious tensions are among the key issues" .
The NEI was founded with the objective to promote peace among the communities through constructive dialogues and healthy exchange of culture and tradition.
Manipur has many organisations and individuals fighting for the rights of the indigenous people and their welfare.
This is also one of the reasons why members had been wanting to hold this meeting in Manipur, Stalyn said.
More than 20 delegates from across the North East region and other States will deliberate on many issues.
The meeting will take resolutions for welfare of the indigenous people, added Stalyn.
