U-TRUST elects office bearers, resolves to adopt guidelines

Union of Treatment & Rehabilitation of Users for Social Transformation (U-TRUST), in a joint meeting of its member units held at the premises of 'Way to Life Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Meitram Awang Leikai on Thursday, elected office bearers of the forum of non-funded private rehabilitation centres.
Representatives and point persons of private drug treatment centres from different districts of the state attended the meeting that unanimously elected Soraisam Gobby as the convener of the forum, and Takhenchangbam Chandras Sharma and Arunkumar Sarungbam as co-conveners.
Kishorchand Huiningshubam was elected as publicity secretary, Thingujam Pradeep & Angom Robindro as public relations secretaries, and Kishan Takhellambam as treasurer.
After an exhaustive deliberation, the meeting resolved that U-TRUST will work in tandem with the Social Welfare Department following the formulation of Guidelines for setting up TRUST Centres by the department in September this year.
Further, the 'Committee on Suitable Guidelines for Non-Funded Private Drug Rehabilitation Centres', a body of 62 drug treatment centres of the state, that has been demanding a suitable guideline for private treatment facilities was formally dissolved at the meeting with the recent adoption of the 'Guideline of TRUST Centres' by the state government.
The meeting unanimously resolved to dissolve the Committee to pave the way for an inclusive and apex forum of private drug rehabilitation centres that is in line with the state government's guidelines.
The meeting also resolved that all the internal matters and issues of private drug treatment centres shall be addressed under the ambit of U-TRUST without outside interferences, whatsoever.
On the other hand, the meeting resolved that member units of U-TRUST shall maintain a healthy relationship with the localities where the centres are located and shall partake in activities initiated by the localities.
The meeting further urged private drug rehabilitation centres that are left out of the forum due to communication gap and other issues to reach out to the convener of U-TRUST and enrol then-respective centres to the forum at the earliest.
