Outbreak of ASF confirmed in Noney village

Consequent to the report of unusual mortality in pigs in Longmai IV village, Noney on November 11, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has confirmed outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in the village with test report received from NERDDL, Khanapara Laboratory.
In connection with the report of unusual dead of pigs in the village relayed by the owner named Agui Kamei, a veterinary team along with officials of district veterinary office, Tamenglong and DI Lab, Sanjenthong rushed to the infected pig farm on November 14 to investigate the matter.
On reaching the farm, the team found three carcasses and one ailing pig and necessary post mortem examinations were conducted on the spot in which the case was suspected to be of classical swine fever.
Clinical samples which were collected were sent to NERDDL Laboratory Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Khanapara on November 19 through courier where the tests conducted confirmed the ailment as AFS.
It may be mentioned that approximately 14 pigs died at the said piggery farm in Longmai IV village, Noney.
With the confirmation of ASF outbreak at the pig farm in Longmai IV, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services director Ng Ibotombi has advised the district authority concerned to declare the infected area as surveillance zone for taking up control and containment procedures and impose ban on movement of pig and its products as specified under the National Action Plan for Control and Containment and Eradication of African Swine Fever.
