CADA observes World AIDS Day

As observed across the globe, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) also observed World AIDS Day today at the conference hall of CADA Head Office located at Konung Mamang Pureiromba Khongnang Makhong.
As per a statement, the simple event was organised under World Health Organisation's theme "Equalize" and witnessed the participation of MC Rita, president, LEIMAROL; Hijam Priyokumar, president, CADA and Nongthombam Rupachandra, president, United People's Front, Manipur as the presidium members.
Delivering the keynote address, Geetchandra Mangang, secretary general, CADA stated that HIV/AIDS does not only spread through physically intimate relations but through other means such as sharing needles while administering drugs.
In view of the growing concern about the spread of this disease, CADA has been conducting awareness programmes in this regard across various regions of the State, he maintained.
Speaking as the guest of honour, Nongthombam Rupachandra urged people to absorb the information disseminated at the event and spread them in their localities.
He also claimed that individuals who are not drug users are being forcefully admitted at certain drug rehabilitation centres and expressed the need to rectify this injustice.
MC Rita opined that Manipur AIDS Control Society needs to resume their awareness programmes to prevent any unfortunate situations in connection with HIV/AIDS She then highlighted environmental factors and economic conditions as other causes of the spread of HIV/AIDS.
It may be noted that the World AIDS Day observation is one of the eight public health campaigns launched by the WHO.
