Feel proud for what you are: Dr Ranjan to transgenders

Health & IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh attended the observance of World AIDS Day organised jointly by Transgender Health and Wellness Centre, SASO and PATH at Transgender Health and Wellness Centre, Porompat, Imphal East on Thursday.
In his address, Ranjan Singh said that transgenders should not be disappointed for reasons of social stigma and others, but should feel proud for being themselves.
Comments should be taken positively.
They need to diversify their fields through their talents and should not be the victims of negative comments from others.
There has been a positive change in the status of the transgenders during the past few years.
It's a transition period, he added.
The minister also said that as the government has been taking up welfare measures for the transgender community in the state they can enjoy the health benefits initiated by the government.
Grievances will be addressed on priority basis.
Mental harassment to the transgender should be stopped.
Measures for their mental wellbeing will be taken up, the minister assured.
Dr Ranjan also mentioned that departments concerned like Social Welfare will also be consulted with for the welfare of transgenders.
While stressing on the need for maintaining database system for the medical professionals and stakeholders, he said that a united effort is required to fight against drugs and AIDS.
The efforts and roles of the NGOs and voluntary organisations in this regard are worth appreciation, the minister added.
Dr Lokeshwar Singh, medical superintendent JNIMS, Kh Diana Devi, deputy commissioner Imphal East, Dr Abhiram Mongjam, joint director (TI) MACS, also attended the event as president and guests of honour respectively.
