Imphal, April 30 2023:
Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and others have greeted the people on the International Workers' Day, popularly known as May Day.
Extending wishes, the Governor said all workers have contributed tirelessly towards the development of the country, providing services in different sectors.
"Let us all celebrate workers in the country and outside.
Happy International Workers' Day," she greeted.
CM N Biren, in his message to the people, said the International Workers' Day is observed to honour the struggles and gains made by workers and labourers for improving their working conditions and demanding higher wages.
It was on this day in the year 1886 that the labour class came together and revolted against the unjust system meted out to them.
They raised their voices for paid leaves, good wages, and proper breaks.
The day also symbolises the victory of the working class in their struggle to get 8-hour work a day.
The CM also said that recognising the important contributions made by the working class and labourers in the development and economic growth of the coun- try, the Central Government has come up with eShram portal for creating a comprehensive National Database of unorganised workers and for extending social security/welfare schemes.
Following the CM, Rural Development and Panch-ayati Raj Minister Yumnam Khemchand also wished the labour community on May Day.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra, International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA), Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK) and Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) too greeted the people, specially workers and labourers.
