CPI MSC holds demonstrations against BJP Government

Giving the call for ending alleged 'misrule' of the BJP government, Communist Party of India/Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) organised demonstrations at eight places on Sunday.
In a release, CPI/MSC informed that the demonstrations were held in Lamsang, Langthabal, Wangjing Tentha, Keirao, Sugnu, Kshetrigao, Heirok and Bishnupur assembly constituencies.
Speaking at the demonstration held in Lamsang A/C, CPI state secretary Thoiren highlighted the need to put an end to the misrule of BJP government.
He stated that India is home to by different communities embracing different religions.
As such, attempt to transform the country only for the Hindus is unacceptable.
It is nothing but an act of fascism.
CPI has launched the demonstration to revive democracy and protect the constitution of the land.
The demonstrations were attended by State assistant secretary M Joykumar Luwang, All Manipur Nupi Marup president Th Sakhi Devi, central control commission Dr M Nara, state executive member A Naba, CPI farmer state secretary L Sotinkumar and CPI Imphal East secretary H Bimol among others.
Rallies were also taken out as a part of the demonstration, the release added.
Meanwhile, AITUC Manipur state committee general secretary L Sotinkumar contended that labourer community in the country has been facing unprecedented miseries under the rule of PM Narendra Modi and assured that various demands for ensuring the rights of the labourers will be brought up and discussed during the observance of Labour Day on May 1.Addressing media persons at Irabot Bhawan, here, on Saturday, Sotinkumar informed that May 1 observed as International Labour Day will also be organised in the state by AITUC at THAU ground and will be attended by labourers, employees, unions, association and women, The observance, will raise issues on the rights of the labourers and ensure that the rights are enjoyed by the labourers.
He further informed that in 1889 an international federation of socialist groups and trade unions designated May 1 as a day in support of workers, in commemoration of the Haymarket Riot in Chicago (1886).The observance started in India in Madras in 1923 and in Manipur from 1939 under the leadership of Jananeta Hijam Irabot.
He also expressed sadness over the fact that the day was not included in the holiday list by the BJP government in the state but later declared as general holiday after an order passed by the High Court.
Sotinkumar further stated that the working hours of a labourer has been increased from the universally accepted 8 hours to 12 in some of the states in addition to removal of the maternity benefit for women under the Narendra Modi regime and thus bringing unprecedented miseries to the labourer community.
He also informed that various demands including holding of Indian Labour Convention on regular basis, equal pay to regular and contractual employees, recognition of scheme workers as grade IV employees, increasing monthly honorarium of labourers to Rs 21,000 (Rs 700 per day) will be brought up during the May Day observance and plan agitations to pursue the demands.
