The Agri Horti Expo 2023 cum Indigenous products of Manipur & Buyers-Sellers Meet organised by Mani pur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) concluded at Hapta Kangjeibung, here, on Sunday.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation commissioner P Vaiphei, director Honey Chara, ICAR Research Complex, NEHR head of regional centre Dr Arnab Sen, and CAU Imphal, College of Food Technology dean professor Ng Iboyaima attended the valedictory function as presidium members.
The expo was sponsored by Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) and government of Manipur.
Awards consisting of cash prize, memento and shawls were distributed to winners of stall competitions conducted in different categories such as state government, institutions/ agencies, Farmers' Producers Company (FPC), and entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion, P Vaiphei highlighted the initiatives taken up by MOMA to promote organic foods and farmers in the state while mentioning about the potential of northeast region in organic farming sector.
He encouraged farmers to consult department officials and experts to boost their production and market support among others.
So far, four organic products of the state have received GI tags, he said while urging farmers to bring up proposals for GI tagging of other products as well while highlighting the benefits of producing GI tagged products.
MOMA project director and additional director of horticulture department K Devdutta said that the efforts, initiatives and achievements of MOMA in its journey of seven years were highlighted during the buyers sellers meet and it helped in exploring other avenues for enhancing productivity and farmers' income.
He also stressed on the importance of integrating farmers and entrepreneurs, and added that the expo was able to provide a platform to both.
