CorCom extends May Day greetings
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, April 30 2023: The Coordination Committee (CorCom), a conglomerate of underground groups operating in Manipur, has extended revolutionary honour and greeting to all the working-class people on the occasion May Day, to be observed on Monday.

According to a statement of CorCom, May Day is observed throughout the world on May 1 every year to commemorate the courage and unity of working-class people who fought against the exploitative system adopted by the wealthy (capitalist) people.

The day also remembers the unity of working-class people who successfully launched a movement against the capitalists on May 1, 1886 at Haymarket, Chicago (USA).

The movement was against exploitative policy of the capitalists who imposed long working hours merely for getting profit.

On the auspicious occasion, CorCom also placed its views to the people of Manipur (Kangleipak) particularly the working class section who are being suppressed by 'colonial regime' and wealthy section of the society.

CorCom said it firmly believes that farmers and working-class people will never have decent and prosperous life as long as the system in which humans exploit humans and few people grab all the global wealth persists.

While major chunks of fruits resulted from the hard work and sweats of the working-class people are being accumulated by those in the administration, few middlemen feast on the left-out fruits.

Millions of poverty-stricken working-class people living with daily wages across the globe are fighting for survival and the cost of their lives are much lesser than four-legged living beings reared by the wealthy people.

Unless such division in the society is broken and an egalitarian society established, there would not be decent and prosperous life for farmers and working-class people.

The main objective of the movement for egalitarian society is not merely for increasing wages and having small space for medical facility at work places but to bring poor people at par with the rich people by providing equal opportunities and living together joyously.

This is the global movement with the love for humanity.

However, the people of Manipur (Kangleipak), being suppressed by two successive colonial powers, are still facing the burden of the past system.

The burden brought about by inequality since the time of monarchy with the then culture and tradition is being perpetrated and this burden is yet to be offloaded and unable to stand together on the same platform till date.

There are many people in the 'Kanglei' society who could not even afford to own land, unable to become complete person and still living at the mercy of a handful of wealthy people.

On the other hand, Kanglei people living under colonial power are still facing another burden and accordingly administrators coming from outside are making all the decisions relating to administration and economy of the land.

The reasons for bearing the burden are being directed towards each other and remain furious.

Accordingly, Kanglei people are unable to take own decision whether in administration or land and it has become habit for administrators from outside to take the decision, CorCom said.

Instead of discussing the present condition of Manipur (Kangleipak) and finding solution to problems being faced by the people including unemployment of youth, political parties are unleashing propaganda against each other and pretending to be good to the people.

Their propaganda also attempts to divert the mind of the people from thinking of the ways to mend woes and this indeed could be termed as reaching the height of colonial administration.

According to CorCom, emergence of more landless people as farmers and labourers to earn daily wages and some section of people getting richer day by day makes clearer the difference among humans in Manipur (Kangleipak).

Instead of discussing the increasing numbers of labourers in the hills and their inability to sustain life with their own produces in the present global change, political advantage is being drawn in the name of 'War on Drug' mission, which indeed is akin to waging war against poor people in the hills.

At the same time, people investing money to drug factory and trafficking and wealthy people are being given support indirectly, CorCom said.

Despite fully knowing ill effects of drugs and alcohol and their impact to the society, attempt is being made to legalise alcohol and establish factories to produce so-called healthy alcohol.

This attempt, however, is exposure of colonial thought and efforts are being made to compromise tax collected from liquor factories with chaos brought by alcohol in the society.

At the mercy of some owners of liquor factories from outside, a handful of people of the land are sidelining the ongoing movement by some groups and Meira Paibi against legalisation of liquor production and trying to belittle the movement as a mere dream, CorCom said, adding that various propagandas are being spread to present the 'War on Drug' and legalisation of alcohol in different angles despite having erroneous and secret matters.

While stating that the fate of the farmers and working class people lie solely on challenge and fight, CorCom said that farmers and working-class people living under colonial power must never forget that they are facing two-fold challenges, colonial administration and the wealthy section suppressing the people.

It would be impossible for farmers and working-class people to have decent and prosperous living without eliminating these two-fold challenges, CorCom said and appealed to farmers and working-class people to collectively prepare for a united struggle to liberate Manipur (Kangleipak) .
