Killing of Athuan Abonmai: NIA displays details of 8 wanted men

The National Investigation Agen-cy (NIA), Imphal Branch has put on display details including photographs of some of the wanted persons who have been proclaimed as offenders by the Special Court, NIA in connection with the abduction and killing of Athuan Abonmai on September 22, 2021 .
The details along with the photographs of the wanted persons have been displayed on the wall of the Cheirap Court outside the courtroom of Special Court, NIA Manipur along with the proclamation orders which carry cash reward of Rs 2 lakh each.

According to the proclamations orders, Kham- khuanang s/o Donjiyang of Khunjao village, Tameng-long; Athuana Pamei s/o Miuhemang Pamei of Gadailong ward number 3 Tamenglong; Withonbou s/o Nambibou of Kwalong village, Tamei sub-division Tamenglong; Chunkimlung Thaimei s/o Meiphunlung Thaimei of Ward number 3 Tamenlong; Keiduampou Panmei s/o K Chundiyang of Bhalok II Duiga, Tameng-long; Pousabou alias Jack- son s/o Namrengjonbou of Kadi village, Tamenglong; NK Widingambou s/o Ramninglungbou of Chaton village, Tamenglong (present address Khoupilong ward number 5, Tameng-long) and Achuna Panmei s/o Huthuiyang of Dailong village, Tamenglong committed the offence puni- shable under sections 302/ 307/ 365/ 400 and 34 IPC and section 16/17/ 20 of UA (P) Act.
Warrant of arrest was also issued by the NIA Court against them but the warrant was returned with a remark that the wanted persons could not be found or located.
A few days after the abduction and killing of Athuan Abonmai, Ministry of Home Affairs instructed the NIA to take charge of the investigation into the abduction of Athuan Abonmai from Polo Ground, Tamen-long and his subsequent killing by suspected NSCN-IM cadres on September 22, 2021 .
In compliance with the Ministry of Home Affairs' instruction, the NIA Imphal Branch re-registered an FIR from Lamphel police station and launched an investigation.
During the course of investigation, three persons including one alleged NSCN-IM secret service agent were arrested in connection with the case but two of them have been released on bail.
Notably, Athuan Abon-mai, advisor and former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) left his residence located at Tarung village on September 22, 2021 morning to attend a community outreach programme of the State at Polo Ground, Tamenlong which was also attended by Chief Minister N Biren.
At around 11am, Athuan Abonmai was abducted by around 20 unknown persons from the gate of the Polo Ground and later his bullet ridden dead body was found near a stone crusher site located at Pallong village, some 29 Kms away from Tamenlong district headquarters in the evening of the same day.
