World Veterinary Day observed

Manipur State Veterinary Council in collaboration with Directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services observed World Veterinary Day on the theme of "Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness in the veterinary profession" at the farmers' training hall of Veterinary Office complex, Sanjenthong, here, on Saturday morning.
The observance was attended by Veterinary and Animal Husbandry secretary Michael Achom as chief guest and retired director Dr S Joykumar as president, while Veterinary and Animal Husbandry retired director Dr Th Jiban, Dr H Chaoba and joint director (planning) were present as guests of honour.
As part of the observance, an online veterinary hospital management system was launched at the State Veterinary Hospital, Sanjenthong, along with the launch of a classical swine fever vaccine under Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme.
In his speech, Michael Achom urged the Veterinary department to come up with a policy to make a self-sufficient state, while emphasising the importance of the department.
Former director Dr Th Chaoba said that the veterinary profession includes both clinical and production aspects.
This noble profession has been benefitting the society for ages.
With scientific advancements from time to time, the department has recruited many professionals, he added, while stressing the need for concerted efforts to ensure the department's contributions to the society.
Later, a veterinary medical camp was held at the Hospital, wherein many pet dogs and cats were administered anti-rabies vaccine for free.
