LADCS Imphal East & West inaugurated

Imphal, April 30 2023:
Manipur High Court Judge and Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) executive chairman Justice A Bimol and High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) chairperson Justice A Guneshwar Sharma inaugurated a Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (LADCS) Imphal East and Imphal West at Cheirap Court Complex and Lamphelpat Court Complex respectively on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Bimol informed that LADCS will help provide free legal aid to poor people of the state including representation or during trial and appealing criminal matter.
The System has been opened for the first time in four districts, namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur.
Those recruited for legal aid defence counsel will watch over Senapati, Churachandpur, Ukhrul and Tamenglong on rotation basis.
Special Judge POCSO Court 1 Salam Imocha; District and Sessions Judge Imphal West RK Memcha, District and Sessions Judge Imphal East W Tonen, District and Sessions Judge Thoubal Samom Ibjen, District and Sessions Judge Bishnupur Letkho Kipgen; MASLSA member secretary Ojesh Mutum, OSD Sonikumar Nepram, additional member secretary Sadananda Sorokhaibam; Cheirap Court Complex and Lamphelpat Court Complex judicial officers; president and executive members of All Manipur Bar Association and All Manipur Lady Advocates Association and MASLSA staff attended the two events.
Mention may be made here that LADCS is a scheme taken up under the National Legal Services Authority to provide free legal aid to poor people in criminal cases.
