Office bearers elected, MUSU reinstated

After a gap of almost five years, the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has been reinstated and an election successfully held today.
Polling was held in different class rooms of Social Science (old) block starting from 10 am.
Students were seen standing in long queues waiting for their turn in front of polling booths.
The election committee kept a vigilant eye over the whole process lest any untoward incident breaks out.
Some persons who came to vote with forged identity cards were caught by the election committee and they were forced to turn back without voting.
The election committee was assisted by personnel of 8th MR and Home Guards posted at MU.

The voting process ended at 1 pm without any hiccups.
Counting began at 2 pm at Anthropology Department amidst stringent security measures.
Counting of votes came to an end at around 6.30 pm and the results were promptly declared.
The election was for the posts of MUSU president, general secretary and finance secretary.
As per the election results, Sarangthem David was elected president, RK Pritamkumar as general secretary and Samurailatpam Nevidesco as finance secretary.
Talking about the election, election committee RO Prof Naorem Joykumar said that election of new office bearers after MUSU was disbanded for around five years would facilitate execution of many student welfare activities.
He advised the elected office bearers to work selflessly for the welfare of the university and also to study what the MU authority has been doing before raising any demand.
He also appealed to the MU authority to act in accordance with the collective wish of the students.
