Imphal, November 12 2014:
A joint action committee (JAC) has opposed the Manipur Government's plan to acquire land measuring a total of 30 metre (100 ft) from the single roadside stretching from Langjing Achouba to Eroisemba in Imphal West for the projected Imphal Ring Road to be developed under the funding of Asian Development Bank (ADB).
A JAC against construction of Ring Road from Langjing Achouba to Eroisemba was formed on Wednesday at the residence of M Ibomcha in Langjing Achouba.
Thoudam Bocha, a member of the JAC said the state Government can take 15 metre each from both the roadsides for the planned Imphal Ring Road but it cannot acquire 30 metre from the single side of the road.
He appealed to the Government to cancel the proposal and warned that pressure could intensify if the demand is ignored.
Bocha said the Government has taken the decision to acquire 30 metre of land from the single roadside for the Imphal Ring Road because the CRPF Group Centre, Langjing has refused to share the other side of the road for the purpose.
He said the JAC will foil any attempt by the Government to develop the Imphal Ring Road portion if the decision is not withdrawn.
