Scrub typhus

Imphal, November 12 2014:
Five villagers of Ngarian Reahjang village in Churachandpur district were found infected by scrub typhus during a health survey conducted on November 8 last.
The survey was jointly conducted by National Students' Union of India, Manipur State and a District Rapid Response team constituted by Bishnupur district Surveillance Officer O Ramesh.
Although the village falls under the jurisdictional area of Churachandpur district, the team from the Bishnupur district surveyed the area on humanitarian ground, said a statement issued by NSUI Manipur vice-president G Victor.
The statement added that the villagers were infected by the disease when they went to a nearby forest to collect bamboo shoots.
All of them have been rushed to different hospitals in Imphal, it added.
