Imphal, April 06 2022:
Shopkeepers in Paona Keithel have resolved to shut shops until the Imphal Municipal Corporation revokes its order which restricts parking of vehicles along the Paona Keithel stretch.
Speaking to media persons, one shopkeeper Soibam Shyam Singh stated that the way IMC issued the order without giving any alternative parking space for customers who come to buy stuff from Paona Keithel is unfortunate.
Saying that the order would cause severe inconveniences to customers, he urged the Government to look into the matter and do the needful at the earliest.
Earlier today, a team of Imphal West police made the announcement using loudspeaker as per an order issued by Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Imphal Municipal Corporation.
Infuriated by the announcement, most shopkeepers closed their shops along the Paona Keithel stretch except pharmacies, bookstores and optical stores and convened an emergency meeting at Moreh International Market.
During the meeting, the shopkeepers took a resolution to shut shops until the order is revoked.
As per the order, all vehicles of shopkeepers, officials of financial institutions or any establishment and residents of Thangal Keithel residing within the stretch from Ima Keithel number 1 to Khoyathong should be parked on the slab above the Naga Nullah.
Another order of IMC mentioned that public parking spaces allotted by IMC on Thangal Keithel and Paona Keithel roads have been closed until further order due to heavy traffic congestion.
