Imphal, May 24 2023:
While alleging that Assam Rifles (AR) person-nel stationed in Moreh are favouring Kuki community and militants, the govern-ment has been fervently ap-pealed to deploy additional state forces in the border town to facilitate the re-turn of Meiteis who have fled Moreh and are taking shelter in Imphal.
Speaking to the media, members of some Meitei families still in Moreh con-tended that the AR person-nel are openly siding with the Kuki militants and Kuki community.
If the security forces exercised neutrality, the violence that erupted in Manipur could have been averted, they opined.
Meanwhile, sources in-formed that Kuki mobs barged into abandoned Meitei houses in Moreh ward number 7 and loot-ed the household items on Tuesday.
After the properties were looted, BSF personnel arrived at the spot and took control of the area.
Conse-quently, the curfew which was relaxed till 2 pm was shortened with immediate effect in Moreh town.
On the other hand, reli-able source informed that the Manipur police com-mandos deployed in Moreh are likely to leave the town if reinforcement is not sent in the next couple of days.
The government should understand that the few Ma-nipur police commandos in Moreh are protecting houses of the Meiteis which could be destroyed as and when the commandos leave Moreh, the source added.
