Imphal, May 24 2023: A combined team of Imphal West district police and 22 Assam Rifles apprehended three people and seized firearms, ammunition and explosives on Wednesday around 9.35am.The arrested people have been identified as Thangneimang Khaute Vaiphei (63) son of late Lanjahao Vai-phei, village chairman and PHED retired technical Jugali; Luntinsang Chongloi (33), son of Paokhol-un Chongloi, who is a new recruit of rifleman in 10 IRB Bn (Rfm no.1023651); and Lunsiamlen Vaiphei (19) son of Haominthang Vaiphei.

They were all from Leilon Pheijang Vaiphei village, Kangpokpi district.

According to police, the combined team conducted frisking and checking at Kangchup foothills under jurisdic-tion of Lamsang police station and halted a suspicious Alto car (MN 01- X 7854) .

Upon checking of the vehicle, two each single-barrel and double-bar-rel, one foldable butt double barrel, 280 rounds of bore ammunition Shaktiman, 810 rounds of bore ammunition Agni Shoot, five local made bombs and cash of Rs 37,650 were seized.

Upon interrogation, the arrested trio disclosed that the arms, ammunition and explosive were brought from Churachandpur for use in the present communal clash.

Meanwhile, on receipt of information about the presence of some suspected the general area of Thing-pui village, Bishnupur or Wednesday around 3pm, th( district police command( conducted search operatior and recovered one doubt( barrel and two single barre guns, 18 cartridges and thre( Chinese hand grenades.

The seized items were handed over to Imphal poloce.
