Firefighters to resume duty

Firefighters of Manipur Fire Service who were protesting against assault to their five personnel by personnel of 16 Jat Regiment have temporarily withdrawn from their resolution to not discharge duty.
Mention may be made that the firefighters were assaulted by personnel of 16 Jat Regiment at Konung Mamang on May 22 while they were stuck amidst mob and roadblocks on the way to New Checkon to douse fire set by mobs following an unwanted incident in the area earlier in the day.
In a release, the general secretary of Non-Gazetted Employees Union, Manipur Fire service said that the firefighters have withdrawn from their resolution after Jat Regiment top brass tendered an apology during a meeting convened yesterday at the office chamber of Joint Director of Manipur Fire Service Department.
During the meeting which was attended by fire service employees, top brass of 16 Jat Regiment not only apologized for the assault but also assured to take up disciplinary actions against the erring personnel to avoid similar incidents in the future, the secretary said.
