Imphal, May 24 2023:
United Chongthas has claimed that the main cause for the prevailing situation in Manipur is the State Government's action against poppy cultivation and illegal settlements in Reserved Forest areas.
In a release, United Chongthas asserted that the present conflict is between the drug cartels trying to make Manipur a Narco-State and the Government's mission to curb the menace of drugs by carrying out mass destruction of poppy plantations in hill areas.
"It should be understood by all that the State Government's effort to protect the Reserved Forest area, destroy poppy plantations and evict illegal migrants, especially its War On Drugs mission have been carried out under the supervision of the Central Government", it claimed.
United Chongthas continued that armed militants backed by drug cartels have targeted not only civilians but also the personnel of State and Central Forces.
"Armed militants, CSOs, legislatures, political leaders and bureaucrats supported by drug cartels have openly rose up against the Government of India", it claimed.
It also mentioned that the fire lit by the drug cartels has razed many houses, religious sites and left thousands of people stranded in both the hills and the valley.
United Chongthas also questioned the Central Government's silence on the prevailing law & order situation in Manipur even after 20 days since the ethnic conflict began in the State.
"The Central Government has remained a mute spectator to the cries of the people who are suffering due to the recent violence.
The growing apprehension of the people over the imminent shortage of essential commodities and life saving drugs due to the blocking of National Highways at Kangpokpi and other hill areas has failed to receive any response from the Central Government so far", it alleged.
United Chongthas appealed to the Central Government to take immediate action to restore law & order in the State and provide necessary assistance to the people displaced by the recent violence.
"It its the responsibility of the Government of India to protect all its citizen and make them feel safe and secure in the country", it concluded.
