Firemen suspend stir; JAC writes to Guv

Manipur Fire Service personnel sus-pended their agitation of not discharging emergency service for some time after 16 Jat Regiment officer apologised and assured to take disciplinary action against its personnel involved in the New Checkon incident on May 22 .
In a release, Manipur Fire Service Non-Ga-zetted Employees' Union mentioned that the decision was taken after a meeting of top officers of Manipur Fire Service and 16 Jat Regiment held at the office of Manipur Fire Service joint director on Tuesday with regard to the assault of the fire service personnel at New Checkon.
Meanwhile, JAC of All Manipur Trade Union Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation (AMGEO) has lodged complaint to Governor Anusuiya Utkey against harassment of fire service personnel on duty by central forces at New Checkon on May 22.In a letter, MC president Rajkumar Basumani Singh drew the attention of the Governor on the incident where a team of fire service personnel who went to New Checkon area to douse a blaze were assaulted, baton-charged and manhandled by the central forces without any provocation.
Even media persons were not spared by the security forces but severely attacked, it added.
Viewing the incident very seriously, the JAC requested the Governor for initiating punitive action against the errant central forces personnel without any delay in order to prevent aggravation of the situation and misunderstanding among the communities.
