Imphal, May 24 2023:
Saving Meitei community is the step to saving Manipur, said former rebel leader RK Sanayaima alias Meghen urging the people of the community to unite.
Speaking to the people at a relief camp for displaced people opened at Pukhao Laipham, RK Meghen said the Meitei community has for long been preaching peaceful coexistence of all communities in Manipur.
Since the time of the British, the community has been working towards creating a united Manipur that includes the Kukis.
However, it has become clear that a particular community is threatening to disintegrate Manipur at present, he said.
RK Meghen asserted that the population of the people called "Chin Hills" who crossed the border illegally from Myanmar has swelled over the years and they are eying to form their own separate State including the territories of Mizoram, Manipur and Myanmar.
Stating that the situation [demand for a separate State] has been there for quite some time, Meghen said the present crisis is due to ignorance of the successive Governments over the years.
Asserting that the territory of Manipur has shrunk considerably, Meghen said that saving the Meitei community is the first step to saving Manipur and further stressed that people of the community should unite.
RK Meghen also visited and talked to the displaced at relief camps opened at Khundrakpam, Naorem Birahari College, Taretkhun and Keibi Awang Leikai.
