Imphal, January 08 2023:
Indigenous People of Kangleipak (IPAK) president Somorendro Kshetrimayum has appealed to all landlords in Manipur to be very watchful while renting out rooms to non-Manipuris.
He made the remark while attending the 37th foundation day of Leishemlon Marup at Singjamei Chingamakha Oinam Leirak as chief guest today.
At the observance Somorendro continued that many families in Manipur who have daughters married to non-locals bought land in the name oftheir daughters and let them (their daughters with non local spouses) reside in the State.
Saying that protection of the State and indigenous communities requires collective efforts, he appealed to all Manipuris who have non local relatives to stop buying lands for them ( the non locals) to settle in the State.
Claiming that the non locals settled in Manipur might include criminals who fled from their States, the IPAK president asked every Manipuri to be vigilant and watchful while engaging in any sort of activities with non locals.
He went on to claim that the name of some non-locals getting enrolled in the electoral list is a very serious issue.
Appealing to all landlords to be very cautious while renting out rooms to non locals, Somorendro maintained that the initiative taken up by the Government to identify non locals who entered or have been staying in Manipur is indeed laudable.
He claimed that the number of non-locals staying in Manipur might be as many as 10 lakh.
IPSA vice president Khuraijam Athouba, Singjamei Chingamakha Oinam Leirak Women Welfare Association secretary Oinam Jandhabi Devi and Leishemlon Marup president Ksh Tombi were also present.
