As part of the ongoing agitation spearheaded by Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM) for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list of the Indian Constitution, members and volunteers of the committee stormed the residence of Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar and submitted a memorandum to the legislator on Sunday.

The MLA, after receiving the memorandum, maintained that the demand of STDCM is reasonable and the right approach and said that there might be adverse consequence on the future generations if such demands are not fulfilled in time.
Suggesting changing of the name of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur to Scheduled Tribe Restoration Demand Committee Manipur, MLA Rameshwar pointed out that Manipuris were schedule tribes till 1930 and it was only in 1950 that Manipuris were suddenly excluded from the ST list.
He also assured of extending all possible help to the committee as well as to the cause of public welfare.
