UCM Kom unit formed; office bearers take oath

The Kom unit of United Committee Manipur (UCM) has been formed at Khoirentak Khunou with its office bearers taking oath on January 6.In a release, UCM HQ IPR secretary Leisemba Lamaba informed that the newly elected UCM Kom Unit office bearers include Serto Ahao Kom as chairman, K Thangneikhup Kom as vice-chairman, L Angkhup Kom as general secretary, K Roselyne Kom as finance secretary, Serto Akim as women affairs secretary, T Lenjathang as organisation secretary and T Samuel Kom as IPR secretary.
Speaking on the occasion, UCM president Joy-chandra Konthoujam explained that the Kom Unit has been opened with an aim to unite all for protecting the state's integrity and commended steps taken up by Kom Union in this regard.
The UCM president also stated that Kom tribe is an indigenous community of Manipur with its origin in the surrounding areas of Moirang.
Though the community has a total population of only 25,000, it is heartening that they have been making huge contribution to the cause for protecting Manipur's territorial integrity, the president said and pledged that UCM will always stand with the Kom community and ensure that benefits of all government schemes reach the community.
UCM will always oppose any move for assimilation of smaller communities by a larger community.
Each community must learn to respect others, it further conveyed.
