State sees spike in vehicle sale

Manipur reportedly recorded a significant jump in the sale of vehicles of all types in December 2022 with three wheelers and passenger vehicles seeing highest spike in sales.
According to a data released by Federation of Automobile Dealers' Associations (FADA), the overall year-on-year (YoY) increase in the sale figure of all types of vehicles is 24.93 per cent with December 2022 recording sale of 5,924 vehicles as compared to 4,742 vehicles in December 2021 .
The state is showing significant increase in sale despite the fact that the country is witnessing 5.40 per cent decrease from December 2021 to December 2022.Increase in retail sale varies among the different categories.
In two-wheeler vehicle section, the state recorded sale of 4,151 vehicles in December 2022 against 3,649 vehicles sold in December 2021, thereby showing a YoY increase of 13.76 per cent.
Total sale of 102 three wheeler vehicles was recorded in December 2022 against 56 sold in December 2021, which shows a YoY increase of 82.14 per cent.
December 2022 recorded sale of 192 commercial vehicles against 184 units sold in December 2021, which shows a YoY increase of 4.35 per cent.
In passenger vehicle category, which include cars, December 2022 reported sale of 1,478 units against 851 units sold in December 2021, thereby showing a significant YoY increase of 73.68 per cent.
On the other hand, only one tractor was sold in December 2022 against two units in December 2021 showing a YoY decrease of 50 per cent.
The All India YoY changes from December 2021 to December 2022 are: minus 11.19 per cent in two wheeler, 41.51 per cent in three wheeler, 10.67 per cent in commercial vehicles, 8.15 per cent in passenger vehicles, and 5.24 per cent in tractors.
The overall change is minus 5.40 per cent.
Commenting on how December 2022 performed, especially in the state, FADA Manipur State chairperson Andy Mangsatabam said, "Comparatively, the automobile industry of Manipur in December of 2022 has been observed performing better.
It is a positive signal for the state, where the automobile industry has proven significant generation of employment opportunities and revenue for the state" .
