Medical camp conducted, saplings planted

Loktak Battalion of IGAR (South) conducted a medical camp at Karang village in Bishnupur district on January 5 to provide healthcare service to the people of Karang village where requisite medical facilities are not available.
The camp was attended by villagers from Karang village and adjoining areas of Bishnupur district.
A well constituted team of medical staff including Regimental Medical Officer and Assam Rifles Medical Officer of the Battalion conducted the medical camp, wherein the team treated the patients besides providing medicines to the needy villagers.
A total of 800 patients that included 200 men, 500 women and 100 children were diagnosed and treated during the medical camp.
Apart from providing medical assistance, basic knowledge on health education including precaution from common viral diseases was also imparted and emphasis on importance of hygiene and sanitation was explained by all the doctors and medical staff to the villagers for better living standard.
The local populace of Karang village and adjoining areas highly appreciated the initiative of Loktak Battalion for organising the medical camp, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.
In another statement, the PRO informed that Somsai Battalion of IGAR (South) conducted tree plantation drive at Tolloi village in Ukhrul district on Saturday during which the Battalion planted a total of 100 saplings along with villagers including youth to promote awareness about the importance of growing trees for conserving the depleting forests.
The local populace applauded the efforts made by Assam Rifles for undertaking such initiatives in the village and have shown their enthusiasm to work alongside with the security forces, added the PRO.
