Highlighting the different means to save the natives of Manipur, Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) president Somendro Kshetrimayum has appealed to women in particular for taking up initiative to restrict marrying to outsiders.
Speaking during the 37th foundation day celebration of Leishemlom Marup at Singjamei Chingamathak Oinam Leirak community hall on Sunday, Somendro recounted that IPAK has been working for safeguard of the indigenous people since its inception.
He also lauded the assurances given about arresting landlords if tenants from outside the state were found not possessing valid ILP passes and further observed that numerous outsiders involved in crimes take refuge in the state by staying on rent in outskirts of the capital city or town.
As such, effective precautionary measures should be taken against them, he stressed.
The president also suggested that rooms should not be rented to outsiders as far as possible, and women who got married to outsiders should not bring their spouses and live after buying plot of land in the name of the woman.
Somendro pointed out that Manipuri women have starting indulging in food delivery service, driving auto and butchery of fish and chicken.
Locals and clubs should encourage such women as the indigenous people can be protected only when they take over the jobs previously dominated by outsiders and moreover, it will improve the economy of Manipur, he added.
