Return sand "stolen" from carrier vehicles: Assn

Demanding that Senapati District Truck Owners' Association return the sand it forcefully offloaded from carrier vehicles coming from Dimapur and Assam in Tadubi area without the permission of the government by August 12; Manipur Sand Association, Koirengei has cautioned that the Association will cease custody of any sand brought from Dimapur and Assam to Manipur within short notice.
Addressing a press meet at its office on Wednesday, Association president W Shyamkishor Singh recounted that on June 28, Senapati District Truck Owners' Association disregarded the laws of the land and without government authorisation, offloaded the sand which were being transported by trucks from Dimapur and Assam to Manipur with a valid transit pass.
This illegal move is simply looting small sand business operators and is highly.
condemnable, he contended.
In this regard, Manipur Sand Association made a request in writing to Mao PS for registering an FIR on August 1 and further urged the student organisations and non-government organisations of the hill districts to take action in the matter.
Thus, Senapati District Truck Owners' Association must return the "stolen" sand to the office of Manipur Sand Association in Koirengei by August 12, failing which the Association will no longer take custody of any sand brought in by trucks from Dimapur and Assam, he reiterated and also appealed to the sand transporters not to bring the material to its office from August 13 onwards.
Further informing that a complaint on the matter has been submitted to All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union, Senapati District Drivers' Welfare Association, Surface Transport Drivers' Welfare Union and Sadar Hill Inland Transports and Drivers' Union; Shyam-kishor appealed to the state government to look into the matter as well.
