Campaign against adulteration of edible oil launched

As per the instruction of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)� State Food Safety Authority, Manipur has launched a 14-day state wide campaign from August 1 till 14 with the objective to check adulteration of edible oils, compliance with respect to limits of trans-fatty acids, labelling provisions and mandatory AGMARK licence for multi-source edible oils and enforcement of prohibition on sale of loose edible oils.
In a release, food safety additional com missioner/health services director Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang informed that as a part of the campaign, food safety officers (FSOs) have been taking up surveillance sampling (first stage) of edible oils being sold in the market on daily basis.
These samples have been sent to laboratories concerned.
In case of non-compliance during the first stage, regulatory samples will be lifted immediately and sent for testing, it added.
The release continued that till Tuesday, 24 edible oil samples have been collected and sent for testing.
This 'campaign is not meant to harass anyone but to ensure that safe and quality edible oils are made available to the people, it said and appealed to the people to remain vigilant and supportive.
