Imphal, August 10 2022:
The Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) has announced boycott of Independence Day and called a 12 hour total shutdown in the whole of Manipur from 6 am of August 15 .
A press release issued by the convenor, publicity committee of ASUK, S Mangai stated that matters relating to health, religious activities and emergency and essential services would be exempted from the purview of the shutdown.
As in other parts of the country, the State too will celebrate the independence day of India on August 15, ASUK said and added that the Centre introduced a new campaign 'Har Ghar Tiranga' encouraging every Indian to hoist the tricolour flag at their respective houses.
Claiming that August 15, however, is a black day for the Manipuris ASUK alleged and added that hoisting the tricolour on this particular day would only mean that "we willingly became their subordinates".
Further alleging that the different problems such as diminishing number of indigenous people, drug addictions, corruption, disunity among the people and absence of far sighted leaders and others engulf the contemporary Manipur, ASUK claimed that the education sector in Manipur is also flawed as it does more harm than good to the society.
Saying that all these problems can annihilate any society easily, ASUK claimed that leaders in Manipur and armed organisations are not able to give any positive response to address these issues unfortunately.
Manipur being overwhelmed by different problems today is a consequence of merging with India, ASUK opined and added that Manipur may easily control its problems had it been an independent entity.
Claiming that India has been scheming to exterminate Manipur using different tactics since the past and 'to prevent us from recollecting our collective historical memory', ASUK claimed that Jews, though separated for many years, managed to establish Israel in 1948 as they are well versed with their history.
Further stating that the society which cannot recollect their history is the society which has lost its strength, ASUK accused the Centre of deploying different tactics to dilute 'our culture' and exterminate the State in the long run.
ASUK said that the Manipuris don't have any reason to celebrate the independence day of India.
