Imphal, August 10 2022:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Tuesday organised a one-day farmers' training programme cum distribution of urea and seeds of Rabi crops at Konthoujam Mamang Leikai community hall.
The programme was attended by UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam, consultative member H Ibotombi Khuman, Imphal West DAO S Kenedy, Citizens' Development Organisation president K Ranbir, Konthoujam GP up-pradhan K Rajendro and Konthoujam Mamang Women Society president Ch Bimol as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Joychandra informed that the programme is aimed at making Manipur a self-sustainable state and similar programme will be held in all the districts.
To make the objective a reality, it is important that the benefits of all government welfare schemes are delivered to the entitled beneficiaries and further ensure that farmers have access to requisite materials such as urea in time, he stressed.
Commenting on the frequent occurrences of manmade floods in the state, the UCM president said that farmers are heavily impacted, not to mention of the huge disparity between the money invested and the yield produced.
Thus, it would be better for the government to formulate a policy to increase the yield as well as set up a market for the same, he suggested.
Later, 50 bags of urea were distributed to the farmers.
Seeds of winter crops were also distributed for free, while sprayer pumps were provided at subsidised rates.
Meanwhile, Federation of Civil Societies (FoCS) in association with Department of Agriculture distributed urea to farmers of Imphal East and Imphal West Districts on Tuesday, a press release by FoCS Information and Public Relations secretary Bruce Pebam informed.
