Gold worth Rs 6 Cr seized

Imphal, August 10 2022:
The antismuggling team of Customs Division Imphal seized 11.454 kg of gold worth around Rs 6 crore today.
The team had detained an Eeco van without registration number yesterday at around 7.45 pm while checking vehicles at Thamnapokpi based upon specific information about gold smuggling in the area.
The team took the vehicle to the office of Customs Division Imphal for thorough search for smuggled gold.
During a thorough search of the vehicle today, the team found 69 gold bars concealed in the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle Md Wahidur Rahman, s/o Md Habibu Rahman of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai and two other passengers were also apprehended by the team.
The value of the gold biscuits and the seized vehicle is estimated to be around Rs 6,02,96,644/- (Rs six crore, two lakh, ninety six thousand, six hundred forty four only) today.
Peddler held : A team of Imphal East commandos arrested one drug peddler along with 130 gram of heroin powder from Hatta Golapati area, yesterday.
According to sources, the team of commandos carried out a random frisking and checking drive at Hatta Golapati area to prevent unwanted incidents ahead of the Patriot's Day and Independence Day celebrations.
During the drive, one drug dealer identified as Sorensangbam Sanatomba @ Abdul (35), s/o Nila Singh of Ucheckon Khunou, presently staying at Hatta was arrested from Hatta at around 6.25 pm.
From his possession, heroin brought in 10 soap cases and 23 small plastic vials were seized.
As per police, the heroin was handed over to Sanatomba by his brother-in-law Md Kudus (40) of Thoubal Khekman Makha.
The arrested person has been handed over to Porompat police station along with the seized items.
