PCI to take up accreditation issue with Chief Secretaries

Chairperson of the Press Council of India (PCI) Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai has said that the Council will take a report from the Chief Secretaries of all the States to ensure smooth functioning of the journalist accreditation committee in all the States.
Speaking to media persons during a function held at New Delhi, Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai said that the Council has received several complaints pertaining to non establishment of journalist accreditation committee on time in many States and violation of the rules and regulations of the committee in many other States and as such letters will be sent to all the Chief Secretaries and to get a report from the latter.
Saying that the PCI has also received information about the officials of the journalist accreditation committee being used for political gain in some States, she added that many journalists in the country cannot enjoy their rights due to political interference.
PCI has learnt about the harassment of journalists in different parts of the country by colluding with the people in power, Justice Ranjana said and added that the Council will urge the State Governments concerned to prevent harassment of journalists in future.
Different representatives of news agencies and office bearers of PCI also attended the programme.
