Five Myanmarese arrested in Ccpur; AR nabs foreigner

Five Myanmarese nationals, including a woman, were arrested on Tuesday night from Ngathal Village in Churachandpur district for illegal intrusion.
According to police, acting on intelligence inputs, the Myanmarese nationals had illegally crossed the border and were staying in a house in the village.
"They could not produce any documents of identi ty and citizenship therefore they were arrested.
A suo-moto case has been taken up for further investigation, " said a police source.
According to chief minister N Biren Singh, based on reliable information regard ing the presence of Myanmarese nationals in the Ngathal Village area in Churachandpur district, a team from the Churachandpur police station conducted a search.
"During the search, five Myanmar nationals, including one woman, were found staying illegally in the state.
They could not produce any documents of identity and citizenship, therefore were arrested after observing due formalities," CM Biren said.
According to CM, an FIR has been registered under section 14 of the Foreigners Act and further investigation is ongoing.
Earlier this year, Manipur police arrested at least 80 Myanmar nationals, including women and children, who were illegally staying in the Churachandpur district.
Most of them were found in two rented accommodations.
Meanwhile, Tengnoupal Battalion of IGAR (South) reportedly foiled an attempt of illegal immigration at Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district on Tuesday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), while carrying out routine checking at Khudengthabi Permanent Vehicle Check Post, a foreigner lady identified as Mya Kyay Mon (51) resident of Norway reported at Foreigner Check Point at Khudengthabi from Moreh.
Following standard procedures, the troops on duty checked her documents and found that her passport and visa were both expired.
Upon enquiry, the lady revealed that she had arrived in India on May 24, 2019 and has been staying at Moreh illegally post expiry of her visa and passport.
The lady has been handed over to Moreh Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Illegal human infiltration and smuggling of varied illicit drugs, especially heroin, highly addictive methamphetamine tablets from Myanmar are rampant.
Frequent cross-border movement of militants and north-eastern extremists taking shelter in Myanmar territories pose as major challenges to the Indian security forces.
The 1,643-km long unfenced India-Myanmar border is an open border with a free movement regime within 16 km on both sides.
