Imphal, November 03 2021:
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) director Professor A Santa on Wednesday inaugurated a Paediatric Emergency Block of the Paediatrics Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof A Santa observed that owing to the congestion in RIMS casualty, inconveniences are often experienced when children are brought to the institute in emergency.
As such, construction of the newly inaugurated block commenced in 2018.Informing that the southern Gate no 1 of RIMS would be catered for directing paediatric cases to the Paediatric Emergency Block, thereby helping to ease up the previous constraints; the director urged parents/guardians to bring their children requiring emergency care to the said block.
The Paediatric department has state-of-the-art equipment and efforts are being taken to expand the paediatric ICU under the ERCP fund of the Ministry concerned.
Once this is realised, it will become the best paediatric ICU in the whole of the north east.
Previously, the institute had opened the casualty for emergency admission, which was followed by emergency blocks of gynaecology and paediatric.
Preparations are also underway to open an emergency block for cancer patients at the Regional Cancer Centre.
Prof Santa then informed that that the registration fees for the emergency admission of paediatric, gynae and cancer patients will be free and treatment will be provided immediately upon arrival.
As the institute is computerised, the doctors only have to enter the names of the patients.
Further informing that the normal OPD of the institute would reopen from November onwards, the director said that the importance of oxygen has been proven by the pandemic.
Thus, a pipeline of the PSA plant has been laid for Gynae and paediatric cases, he added.
Presided over by RIMS MS Prof N Sanjeeb, the function was attended by Paediatrics HOD Prof Ch Shyamsundar and RIMS Nursing College superintendent Sh Lata as guests of honour.
