Imphal, November 03 2021:
Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) assistant secretary Khundongbam Sangitchandra has said that the association will initiate legal action against warehouse manager of FCI warehouse, Sawombung for collecting money illegally while unloading rice.
According to Sangitchandra, MDA had already informed relevant authority not to collect money illegally from drivers while unloading rice at FCI warehouses but FCI warehouse, Sawombung continued to collect money from the drivers for entering the gate to weighing and unloading.
He further said MDA filed an RTI application in connection with collection of Rs 750 for six-wheeler trucks and Rs 900 for 10-wheeler trucks from drivers while entering FCI warehouses.
When the RTI reply returned, relevant officials said that no money were collected from the drivers while entering FCI warehouses and there is no norm for collecting such money and FCI officials at warehouses had been conveyed about the matter.
However, FCI Sawombung warehouse manager collected the same money from drivers and some drivers were forced to cleanse the complex when opposed.
After getting a complaint in this regard from drivers, a team of MDA went to the warehouse but security at the gate denied entry and this indeed was very unfortunate, Khundongbam Sangitchandra said and reiterated that legal action will be initiated against FCI Sawombung manager for collection of illegal money from drivers.
