Imphal, November 03 2021:
Central government taking rein over various works of the state PWD taken up with central assistance has affected the economy of the state, said NPP's intending candidate in Yaiskul assembly constituency Huidrom Vikramjit on Wednesday.
Attending a felicitation function of new office bearers of NPP Yaiskul Block Committee held at his residence, Vikramjit said that an elected representative should not only work for the welfare of his constituency but also for the entire state and contribute in improving the state's economy.
Vikramjit said that he used to play crucial role in getting fund from the DoNER ministry for infrastructure development projects in the state.
He brought the project for construction of FCI warehouses in the state.
By bringing such projects under the state government, the department concerned received some percentage of the project fund as agency charge and it helped in running the government.
However, in the last few years, many such projects, which would normally be entrusted to the state PWD, have been taken over by the central government.
There might be various reasons for this new arrangement including poor performance and sub-standard quality in work execution, but it affects the overall financial position of the PWD and the state government as a whole.
In Meghalaya, chief minister Conrad Sangma stands against such attempts to take over those projects, which is a much needed stand as a leader of the state, he said.
The Election Commission of India had recognised NPP as the8th national party of the country after fulfilling all the characteristics of a national party and it has central office in New Delhi.
Considering the position and vision of the party, NPP can bring rapid development in the state.
Being a party based in the hilly regions of the northeast states, the party can definitely bring about special projects based on the topography of the state in order to ensure inclusive development, Vikramjit said.
He also said that he has many roles to play in bringing such development if he gets elected.
Vikramjit honoured NPP Yaiskul Block Committee president Phurailatpam Guneshwar Sharma, working president Yumlembam.
Ratikanta and other members of the committee by presenting stoles.
