Imphal, November 03 2021:
Former chief minister and opposition leader Okram Ibobi has said that it is too early to say on any political party winning absolute majority in the 2022 state assembly election.
He, however, expressed his belief that the election is likely to throw up a coalition government.
Speaking to the People's Chronicle, Ibobi disclosed that Congress has been receiving proposals for pre-poll alliance from some likeminded political parties.
However, no final decision has been made in this regard but a decision will be announced shortly after consulting with.central high command.
As per his view, there are high possibilities that the 2022 election will entail formation of a coalition government.
It is too early to say anything on any party winning absolute majority and a party emerging as the single largest party is another matter, he said.
The party has begun assessing the situation in relation with the 2022 election.
The party does not want to make unrealistic tall claims as it does not want to feel embarrassed if unable to fulfil the promises made.
The election result is people's mandate and the party can present a clearer and more accurate picture after some time.
Regarding price hike, Ibobi said that the common people are feeling the heat of regular price rise.
Hike in price of petrol, diesel and LPG has been affecting the normal life of the public severely.
Not many are in a position to afford the rising price of petrol.
Even though the government is providing LPG cylinders and stove free of cost, it would go in vain if the consumers cannot afford to buy refills.
It is the duty of the government to bring down inflation and provide relief to the people.
But the government has failed to do so, the former CM contended.
