Imphal, November 03 2021:
Education minister S Rajen has contended that as the people of Manipur have already tried, tested and tasted, the Congress government would not return in the state again.
Rajen stated this during distribution of pension amount to widows of Patsoi assembly constituency during a function held at PDA complex, Tera bazar on Wednesday.
The function presided over by Dr Krishnananda Support Group advisor Wangkheirakpam Chandramani was attended by minister S Rajen as chief guest and social worker Dr Krishnananda and chief minister's advisor Shijagurumaryum Shantikumar as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, education minister Rajen pointed out that Manipur got statehood in the year 1972 and Congress party ruled the state for majority of the years since then.
Before coming of the present BJP government, the Congress party ruled the state for 15 years but the Congress regime was dominated by bandh, blockade and sowed the seed of hatred between hills and valley people.
It was during the Congress regime that the state was converted into killing field and parents could not stay peacefully when their children did not return after dusk.
Moreover, lives of scores of innocent people were lost in numerous fake encounters thereby leaving many widows, he said, adding that Congress government would not return in Manipur as people of the state are well versed with failures of the party.
According to S Rajen, the BJP-led government has brought many changes in the state and this is being witnessed by people and not mere a verbal claim.
He also claimed that the soured relation that existed between hill and valley people in the past has been effectively addressed since the coming of BJP government.
It was during the time of Congress government that hill people raised voice to join neighbouring states as leaders of the Congress government siphoned off development funds for hills and distributed themselves in Imphal.
However, BJP government has been able to ensure development funds and welfare schemes reach directly to the people in the hills and even their grievances and shortcomings are being discussed and delivered during Go to hills' programmes, he added.
In his speech, Dr Krishnananda said that he begun social work since early age and the support group in his name was formed to serve peopleat his level best.
He also said that the pension scheme for widows was donated in the name of his late father S Madhumangol and Satyabhama for poor widows of the Patsoi AC which remain undeveloped despite locating in Imphal.
Pension amount distributed on Wednesday was for 500 widows and altogether 1000 widows have been selected under the scheme.
