Imphal, November 09 2022:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Ph Nando Luwang has stressed the need for a serious introspection on the emerging situation in the state and the outlook of indigenous population in order to bring self-reliance and promote indigenous tradition and culture.
Speaking at the 15th foundation day cum meritorious award 2022 distribution of Singjamei to Lilong United Clubs' Organisation (SLUCO) held at SWFC ground, Thongju Pheijaleitong on Wednesday, Nando contended that politicians in the state have failed miserably to keep their patriotic promises of bringing development in the state, protecting Loktak Lake, safeguarding territorial and strengthening emotional integrity.
Instead, they are trying to win votes by showing their party's strength in other states and at the Centre.
Though role of politicians in bringing development in a state or nation is crucial, the political class in Manipur are repeatedly advocating the idea of dependence among the people, especially during elections, he said and added that such activities of the politicians are degrading the integrity of the people, especially the youth of the state.
Manipuri society has been sinking to such a low level that it is depending everything on others, and imitating the culture and tradition of other people.
This is an outcome of the protracted ignorance and undermining of Manipur's own culture, tradition, resources, costume and sacred sites.
Traditional attires of Meetei, especially those worn by women speak for themselves as one can easily guess the occasion a woman would be attending on seeing the dress she wears.
It is the duty of every member of the community not only to keep alive but also promote the vibrant and rich customs, he said.
With reference to the peak of Covid-19 pan demic during which the Central government provided ration to the people free of cost apart from the provision under NFSA, Nando opined that while one cannot ignore the benefits of the assistance provided by the government during the hard times, it would be wrong to get accustomed to the assistance and start depending on it while leaving aside the need for increasing food production for the state.
Today, the state is depending on food products brought in from other states.
People have lost work culture and sense of responsibilities.
Manipur, which was once a strong sovereign nation in the region, is becoming a mere state wholly dependent on others while boasting of the past glorious history.
It is time, people realise the gravity of the situation and work towards attaining self-reliance, at least in some sectors, he said, while emphasising on the roles of clubs, organisations and Meira Paibi groups in this regard.
SLUCO founder president W Gonendro, advisor K Santosh, Imphal West District United Clubs Organisation president Kh Heramani Khaba, Singjamei to Lilong Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (SLIMPAL) president H Loidang Leima, SLUCO president S Shantikumar and SWFC Thongju Pheijaleitong president Th Brojen attended the event as presidium members.
