6 IEDs, war-like stores recovered

Imphal, February 24 2022:
Troops of Moreh Battalion of IGAR (S) reportedly recovered six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and explosive material in the border town of Moreh on Wednesday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that in the run up to the Assembly Elections and possible terrorist attacks from groups based in Myanmar, Assam Rifles has been proactively dominating the Indo Myanmar Border.
On Wednesday, specific intelligence inputs were received and an operation launched by Assam Rifles troops near Betuk village along the border.
The troops observed an individual moving on a foreign origin motorcycle entering India from Myanmar carrying a suspicious wooden box.
On being challenged, the suspect dropped the wooden box and fled back to Myanmar.
On examining the wooden box, six IEDs with cortex and electric wire were recovered.
It is assessed that the IEDs were meant to disrupt the election process in Manipur.
The recovered items have handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation.
On the other hand Troops of Somsai Battalion of Assam Rifles of IGAR(S) recovered warlike stores near Naoth-alung village in Ukhrul district on Wednesday.
Based on specific intelligence an operation was launched by security forces near Naothalung village along the Imphal-Ukhrul Highway.
The troops recovered one .32 pistol with five rounds, one Chinese hand grenade and two petrol bombs during the operation.
The recovered items have been handed over to Ukhrul Police Station for further investigation, it added.
