Imphal/CCpur, February 24 2022:
Janata Dai-United (JD-U) Manipur president T Hangkhanpau has expressed strong resentment over alleged diktat by ZRO which asked him to furnish details of all his polling agents at the earliest time possible.
Addressing a press meet on Thursday, Hangkhanpau said that he ran from pillar to post and did his best for the organisation for the last many years, but his good deeds failed to yield positive result.
Even after knowing that he did not get the desired support from the ZRO leaders, he filed his nomination as no one instructed him not to contest the election, Hangkhanpau explained.
Mentioning that he fails to understand why his workers who are polling agents were asked by the ZRO leaders to surrender, Hangkhanpau condemned it in the strongest terms, while recalling all the good things he did for the organisation including that of Southern Manipur Autonomous Territorial Council (SMATC).
Meanwhile, JD-U has alleged that BJP is using armed organisations under SoO to bolster the saffron party's position in the ensuing state assembly elections in the hill areas.
Addressing a press conference at the party's office here on Thursday, JD-U state general secretary Maisnam Dorendro lamented that violent incidents are happening in different pockets of the state despite the call of ECI to make the election free and fair.
Such violent incidents also occurred in five polling station areas of Behiang under Singhat assembly constituency in Churachandpur district.
Some cadres of UG organisations under SoO are threatening the electors of Guite villages of unwanted consequences if 95 per cent of their votes do not go to BJP.
Similar reports have also come from different areas under Singhat assembly constituency, he said.
In this regard, the party has filed complaints with the ECI.
At the same time, violent incidents also occurred in several areas of Khangabok and Lilong assembly constituencies.
Though the party had raised complaint with the CEO Manipur, no steps have been taken up to address this issue.
Taking serious note of the emerging situation, he demanded the ECI to declare Behiang and Guite villages as hyper sensitive areas.
