Imphal, February 24 2022:
Shiv Sena national vice-president and former union minister Arvind Sawant has said that the much-hyped double engine government of BJP has failed to bring development in the state.
Addressing a press conference at Babupara office of the party on Thursday, MP Arvind Sawant said that he came here with the blessings of Shiv Sena chief Ud-hav Thakur to carry out poll campaign.
Despite being in power both in the state and at the Centre, and raising the slogan of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikash, Sabka Viswas and Sabka Prayas, BJP has failed to bring development in Manipur, he said and noted that neither the PM nor the home minister mentioned anything about withdrawal of AFSPA from the state during their visits.
While questioning the BJP government about the promises made five years ago, Arvind Sawant pointed that inflation, unemployment, women's safety and education are some important issues that need to be addressed.
Youth of Manipur are going to other states to pursue higher education.
The state has only a couple of medical and engineering colleges, he noted, while questioning the reason for not framing policies for education and employment.
He further said that he attended election campaign at three locations and witnessed increasing popularity of the party in the state.
The party is fielding nine candidates and all of them are highly educated people without any criminal background, Arvind said and expressed confidence that the candidates will win their respective seats.
He also underscored the role of opposition in any government.
Shiv Sena state president M Tombi stressed the importance of upholding poll promises and said that the party's candidates, if elected, will stick to the party's manifesto and strive to translate them into actions.
He also questioned the stand of BJP and its leaders regarding keeping their pre-poll promises.
BJP had ruled the state for five years but it has failed to address the issue of insurgency as had been promised due to its lack of commitment and sincerity.
Corruption is still a major problem in the state, he said and deplored the condition of road connectivity and government schools in the state.
